This year Grandma wanted to leave on Saturday and spend the night half way since she would have to get up extra early on Monday morning to drive in to Colorado Springs to pick up Pooh, Aunt J and Landree at the airport. It was certainly a great plan. We left around 1pm and were able to take our time. One of the highlights of traveling with Grandma was that Petunia rode in the car with her. Can you say HEAVENLY?!?! Petunia had Grandma's undivided attention AND her own portable DVD player with a few new movies. Rowdy had the entire back of our van all to himself and was able to watch whichever DVD he wanted with no arguing over what to watch next.
Rowdy opted to ride ALL THE WAY in the back. It was perfect for him because he was able to create his own fort and have all his Webkinz piled up to keep him company ...

We made it to Amarillo just in time for dinner. Although I have been through Amarillo almost every year of my life for at least the last 30 years, I have never been to The Big Texan. I was so excited to get to eat here. Unfortunately, every other Texan, Oklahoman, and New Mexico-an within a 100 mile radius decided they wanted to eat there too.
Thanks to Facebook (and the constant updating of my status), my brother and dad were able to know exactly where we were. They logged on to the Big Texan website and we were able to walk through the dining room and give them a little wave. Technology is pretty cool!
Since we still had another hour left of our drive for the day, we opted to just take a few pictures and then head down the road to the Cracker Barrel.
Dad was in charge of finding us a hotel to stay in. After searching he found a great, brand new, Hampton Inn in Dumas, Texas. Since there were 5 of us staying in one room, he specifically requested the largest room they had. They delivered ...
...the HANDICAP room!!!! We laughed and laughed about this. There was certainly PLENTY of room!!
We didn't laugh too long before it was time for us all to get some shut eye. We had another full day of driving ahead of us tomorrow.
To be continued ...
